Mainz

The so-called "new" Jewish cemetery at "Untere Zahlbacher Strasse" in Mainz has been occupied since 2^nd January 1881. The area covers 20,271 m² and contains more than 2,400 gravestones which have been mapped completely in this documentation, prepared in the year 2005. Particularly impressive in this case is the transition from local sandstone to much more durable granite as gravestone material at the end of the 19^th century. This cemetery is again/still being used by the Jewish community in Wiesbaden today as a burial ground.
